Powerful earthquake in Tibet, China

A powerful earthquake struck China’s remote Tibet region on 7th January 2025, killing at least 126 people and injuring 188 others.

•The China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) measured the quake’s magnitude as 6.8, while the U.S. Geological Survey reported it as 7.1.

•Around 3,609 houses were destroyed, and many people were left without shelter in subzero temperatures.

The tremors were also felt in Kathmandu, Nepal, and parts of India, including Bihar.

•The epicenter, Tingri village, is home to around 62,000 people, a region less developed than Tibet’s capital, Lhasa.

•is the deadliest earthquake in China since 2014, and the most powerful recorded within a 200-km radius in the past five years.
