Himachal urges Centre to explore possibility of running toy trains on green hydrogen on Kalka-Shimla route

•The Chief Minister outlined a six-step plan to transform Himachal Pradesh into a green energy state.

•The goal is to significantly contribute to India’s climate commitments and meet Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

•The transition is designed to ensure a fair shift towards sustainable energy while boosting the local economy.

•Himachal Pradesh currently uses 13,500 million units (MUs) of power.

•Around 1,500 MUs come from thermal power sources

•The state plans to replace thermal power with renewable energy, including hydro, solar, and wind power.

•The aim is to achieve 90% renewable energy usage in the state’s power distribution network.

•Local industries will be able to apply for the ‘Eco Mark’, enhancing the value of their products.
