Wetland Accredited Cities
- Recent Recognition: Indore and Udaipur have become India’s first two cities to receive Wetland City Accreditation under the Ramsar Convention.
City Wetlands:
- Indore: Home to Sirpur Lake, a Ramsar site.
- Udaipur: Hosts five major wetlands—Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, and Doodh Talai.
Wetland City Accreditation (WCA):
- Launched in 2015 by the Ramsar Convention to promote urban wetland conservation.
- Encourages cities to integrate wetlands into planning and decision-making.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must have at least one Ramsar or protected wetland site.
- Implement conservation, restoration, and management measures.
- Promote public awareness and local stakeholder participation.
- Establish a local committee for wetland governance.
