Wetland Accredited Cities

  • Recent Recognition: Indore and Udaipur have become India’s first two cities to receive Wetland City Accreditation under the Ramsar Convention.

City Wetlands:

  • Indore: Home to Sirpur Lake, a Ramsar site.
  • Udaipur: Hosts five major wetlands—Pichola, Fateh Sagar, Rang Sagar, Swaroop Sagar, and Doodh Talai.

Wetland City Accreditation (WCA):

  • Launched in 2015 by the Ramsar Convention to promote urban wetland conservation.
  • Encourages cities to integrate wetlands into planning and decision-making.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must have at least one Ramsar or protected wetland site.
  • Implement conservation, restoration, and management measures.
  • Promote public awareness and local stakeholder participation.
  • Establish a local committee for wetland governance.
